Organizers of the 2008 Tall Ships Festival have landed the Eagle
The three-masted barque from the U.S. Coast Guard has confirmed its participation in the festival, set for June 26-29 — a coup because the vessel is a Class A type, which means it’s one of the biggest tall ships.
Anchoring one or more Class A vessels is critical to drawing crowds, John Anderson, festival chairman, said yesterday. “The Eagle is a big ship with lots of mast and lots of sail. Those are the kind of vessels that draw people to the water.”

If you can’t get to Mexico but have a craving for the food, a drive to this tiny room off Beacon Avenue in Sidney (Greater Victoria) might save you. Generous portions of hearty Mexican and Tex-Mex fare washed down with a margarita will have you forgetting your troubles, at least temporarily, and prices are cheap — think chicken or beef quesadillas served with salad for under $10. Don’t miss the San Antonio dip ($5.95), a blend of cheeses, refried beans, salsa and sour cream baked until bubbling and served with freshly made tortilla chips. Closed Mondays. Open Tuesday - Sunday, 11 a.m. - 8:30 p.m. Reservations strongly recommended.
