Da Tandoor passes the critical olfactory test of any good Indian restaurant. Diners are seduced by exotic aromas as they walk through the doorway of this Antique Row eatery. Tandoori chicken, seafood, and lamb are the house specialties; but the extensive menu also includes masalas, vindaloos, goshts, and vegetarian dishes, as well as classic appetizers like vegetable and meat samosas, pakoras, and papadums.
Carlos Cantina and Grill

If you can’t get to Mexico but have a craving for the food, a drive to this tiny room off Beacon Avenue in Sidney (Greater Victoria) might save you. Generous portions of hearty Mexican and Tex-Mex fare washed down with a margarita will have you forgetting your troubles, at least temporarily, and prices are cheap — think chicken or beef quesadillas served with salad for under $10. Don’t miss the San Antonio dip ($5.95), a blend of cheeses, refried beans, salsa and sour cream baked until bubbling and served with freshly made tortilla chips. Closed Mondays.

For classic French cuisine served on Villeroy Boch china and excellent service, look no further than this little restaurant where — hallelujah — cellphones are not permitted. Don’t visit here to eat; this is a place to dine. Indulge your inner gourmand with duck confit garnished with lentils and rhubarb compote or the superb rillettes made with pork belly, and follow with filet mignon bordelaise or braised lamb paired with demi glace enriched with fines herbes, red wine and calvados. Finish with tarte tatin or handmade truffles.
Asian Noodle House Colwood
Sun, 12/16/2007 - 19:41 — dieter
Friendly and very quick service. We are always amazed at how fast the food comes out. You’d almost think it was prepared ahead of time but rest assured that’s not the case. The food is always fresh and tastes excellent. The kitchen is just out of site but you can hear everything such as the food sizzling to perfection. Yes, we really like this place! It is our favourite Asian cuisine in the Westshore area for both dine in and take out. They serve a few selections of house wines and domestic beer. Imported beers Corona, Singtao, Heneken and Asahi also served.

Smoken Bones Cookshack
Thu, 11/08/2007 - 00:00 — dieter
Southern BBQ Cuisine at its best, made from local ingredients and without additives or artificial flavourings. The pulled pork and beef combo brisket plate compete for most favoured status with the BBQ pork ribs. The portions are generous. As is the tradition in BBQ restaurants, you get to pick your side. Some other menu items include Jambalaya, Gumbo, and Hush Puppies (corn fritter). Great place for meat lovers and some special items not found in most restaurants. Vancouver Island’s authentic BBQ food with real smoke. A surprisingly respectable collection of Bourbons.

There is nothing rushed about the food at Smoken Bones Cookshack. From the hours the pork rib racks spend in the smoker, to the hours chef and owner Ken Hueston spends on the phone sourcing out local farm produce, it’s clear there’s something different about the one-year-old restaurant on Station Avenue.
The business is featured in the November issue of Air Canada’s en Route magazine as one of the top 20 new restaurants in Canada.
