Sat, 11/03/2007 - 10:38 — admin
The Whirling Dervishes of Turkey bring an 800 year-old Sufi tradition to the UVic Farquhar Auditorium.
Sacred traditional Turkish music precedes one of the world’s most exquisite spiritual ceremonies. Inspired by Rumi, the dervishes’ whirling is a meditation in motion - subtle, powerful and mesmerizing.
According to the New York Times this performance is ’a spectacle…. it has an austere beauty, from the geometric figures of the dancers to the music’s chain of melodies.’
