A New Year is here once more,
With its visions of future promise.
The old ways passed by,
And a fresh start, there for the taking.
All is optimism;
Gloom is gone!
Looking forward to the innocent blossoming of spring
Blooming into a youthful, balmy summer.
But the world does not change.
That beautiful vision of new cleanness
Comes from within;
From the hope for a better world,
And a desire to let the old ways go.

LIFE I AM THE NEW YEAR
Life I am the new year.
I am an unspoiled page in your book of time.
I am your next chance at the art of living.
I am your opportunity to practice
what you have learned about life
during the last twelve months.
All that you sought
and didn’t find is hidden in me,
waiting for you to search it out
with more determination.
All the good that you tried for
and didn’t achieve
is mine to grant
when you have fewer conflicting desires.
All that you dreamed but didn’t dare to do,
all that you hoped but did not will,
all the faith that you claimed but did not have –
these slumber lightly,
waiting to be awakened
by the touch of a strong purpose.
I am your opportunity
to renew your allegiance to Him who said,
"behold, I make all things new."
I am the new year.

NEW YEAR WISHES
May peace fill all the empty spaces around you
And in you, may contentment answer all your wishes.
May comfort be yours, warm and soft like a sigh.
And may the coming year
show you that every day is really a first day,
a new year.
Let abundance be your constant companion,
so that you have much to share.
May mirth be near you always,
like a lamp shining brightly
on the many paths you travel.
May you be true love.

RECIPE FOR A HAPPY NEW YEAR
Take twelve whole months.
Clean them thoroughly of all bitterness,
hate, and jealousy.
Make them just as fresh and clean as possible.
Now cut each month into twenty-eight, thirty, or
thirty-one different parts,
but don’t make up the whole batch at once.
Prepare it one day at a time out of these ingredients.
Mix well into each day one part of faith,
one part of patience, one part of courage,
and one part of work.
Add to each day one part of hope,
faithfulness, generosity, and kindness.
Blend with one part prayer, one part meditation,
and one good deed.
Season the whole with a dash of good spirits,
a sprinkle of fun, a pinch of play,
and a cup full of good humor.
Pour all of this into a vessel of love.
Cook thoroughly over radiant joy,
garnish with a smile,
and serve with quietness, unselfishness,
and cheerfulness.
You’re bound to have a happy new year.

SAILING INTO THE NEW YEAR
God built and launched this year for you;
Upon the bridge you stand;
It’s your ship, aye, your own ship,
And you are in command.
Just what the twelve months’ trip will do
Rests wholly, solely, friend, with you.
Your logbook kept from day to day
My friend, what will it show?
Have you on your appointed way
Made progress, yes or no?
The log will tell, like guiding star,
The sort of captain that you are.
For weal or woe this year is yours;
Your ship is on life’s sea
You acts, as captain, must decide
Whichever it shall be;
So now in starting on your trip,
Ask God to help you sail your ship.

REQUESTS FOR THE NEW YEAR
What shall I ask for the coming year?
What shall my watchword be?
What should thou do for m, dear Lord?
What can I do for thee?
Lord, I would ask for a holy year,
Spent in thy perfect will.
Help me to walk in thy very steps;
Help me to please thee still.
Lord, I would ask for a trustful year,
Give me thy faith divine,
Taking my full inheritance,
Making thy fullness mine!
Lord, I would ask for a year of love;
O let me love thee best!
Give me the love that faileth not
Beneath the hardest test.
Lord, I would ask for a year of prayer,
Teach me to walk with thee;
Breathe in my heart the Spirit’s prayer;
Pray thou thy prayer in me!
Lord, I would ask for the dying world,
Stretch forth thy mighty hand;
Thy truth proclaim, thy power display
This year in every land.
Lord, I would ask for a year of joy;
Thy peace, thy joy divine,
Springing undimmed through all the days
Be thy days of shade or shine.
Lord, I ask for a year of hope,
Looking for thee to come,
And hastening on that year of years
That brings us Christ and Home..

LITTLE NEW YEAR POEMS
The New Year lies before you
Like a spotless tract of snow
Be careful how you tread on it
For every mark will show.

The Unknown Future
Life is a book in volumes three–
The past, the present, and the yet-to-be.
The past is written and laid away,
The present we’re writing every day,
And the last and best of volumes three
Is locked from sight – God keeps the key.

The Unknown
I do not know what still awaits,
Or what the morrow brings;
But with the glad salute of faith,
I hail its open wings!
For this I know – that in my Lord
Shall all my needs be met;
And I can trust the heart of him
Who has not failed me yet..

Let the New Year be…
Let the new year be a year of freedom from sin,
a year of service, a year of trust in God,
and it will be a happy year from first to last.
It may be the hardest year we have known,
but it will be the happiest.

HOW TO LIVE IN THE NEW YEAR
Life is a journey; I will live it trustingly: "though I
walk through the valley of the shadow … I will
fear no evil: for thou art with me"
(Psalm 23:4)
Life is a task; I will live it obediently: "we keep
his commandments, and do those things that
are pleasing in his sight"
(1 John 3:22)
Life is a mission; I will live it helpfully: "Be ye
kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another"
(Ephesians 4:32)
Life is a contest; I will live it earnestly: "Watch
ye, stand fast in the faith, quit you like men, be strong."
(1 Corinthians 16:13)
Life is a battle: I will live it courageously: "Be
strong and of good courage; be not afraid; for the
Lord thy God is with thee"
(Joshua 1:9)
IF THIS IS TO BE A HAPPY NEW YEAR…
If this is to be a Happy New Year, a year of usefulness,
a year in which we shall live to make this earth better,
it is because God will direct our pathway.
How important then, to feel our dependence upon Him!
~By Bishop Matthew Simpson~
THE YEAR BEGINS….
"The year begins,
and all its pages are as blank
as the silent years of the life of Jesus Christ.
Let us begin it with high resolution;
then let us take all its limitations,
all its hindrances, its disappointments,
its narrow and common-place conditions,
and meet them as the Master did in Nazareth,
with patience, with obedience,
putting ourselves in cheerful subjection,
serving our apprenticeship.
Who knows what opportunity may come to us this year?
Let us live in a great spirit,
then we shall be ready for a great occasion."
~By George Hodges~
NEW YEAR’S EVE
I like to spend my New Years’ eves
In solitude, in humble prayer,
In thanks for each year, as it leaves;
For one more year of God’s sweet care.
Then, too, I pray for strength, that I
Might do His will this coming year
And that I might still harder try
To be a friend to those held dear.
I’ve had my years of "gaiety,"
With parties and a noisy crowd -
And emptiness inside of me
While those around me laugh too loud.
In these, my golden years, I find
The way to end the old year right,
Which gives me joy and peace of mind
Before retiring for the night,
Is blissful hours at home alone,
With music, and a book to read,
And time in prayer for love God’s shown -
It’s all I ask … and all I need.

ANOTHER YEAR FOR THEE
Another year is dawning!
Dear Master, let it be,
In working or in waiting,
Another year with Thee!
Another year of leaning
Upon Thy loving breast,
Of even deeper trusting,
Of quiet, happy rest.
Another year of mercies,
Of faithfulness and grace;
Another year of gladness,
In the shining of Thy face.
Another year of progress,
Another year of praise;
Another year of proving
Thy presence "all the days."
Another year of service,
Of witness to Thy love;
Another year of training
For holier work above.
Another year is dawning!
Dear Master, let it be,
On earth, or else in heaven,
Another year for Thee!
~Author Unknown~
A NEW YEAR’S PRAYER
Dear Lord, please give me…
A few friends who understand me,
and yet remain my friends
A work to do which has real value,
without which the world would feel the poorer.
A mind unafraid to travel,
even though the trail be not blazed.
An understanding heart…
A sense of humor.
Time for quiet, silent meditation.
A feeling of the presence of God
And the patience to wait for the coming of these things,
with the wisdom to know them when they come.

A NEW YEAR’S QUOTE
Whatever the past year may have meant to you,
make it dead history.
But let the new year be a living issue.
With a big fresh sponge,
dripping with the clear water of forgiveness,
wipe clean the slate of your heart.
Enter the year with a kind thought for every one.
You need not kiss the hand that smote you,
but grasp it in cordial good feeling,
and let the electricity of your own resolves
find it’s connecting current –
which very often exists where we think it not.
Make the new year a happy one in your home;
be bright of disposition;
carry your cares easy;
let your heart be as sunshine,
and your life will give warmth to all around you.
And thus will you and yours be happy.
~From the Ladies’ Home Journal~
ANOTHER NEW YEAR QUOTE
The old year is dead,
the new year is born.
Humbly, fearfully, we sink on our knees,
and slowly, in answer to our prayers,
comes back something of the old faith
of our childhood,
and we rejoice that we are granted
one more New Year’s day
on which to "begin again" –
not in our childish way,
with utter disregard of the past,
but trusting, patiently,
knowing that we must ever carry with us our past,
and rejoicing that,
with God’s help,
we may make the future better because of the past.
Then, as we rise from our knees,
we look bravely forward to the veiled figure
that stands at our threshold;
we know only that it is God’s new year.
May He bless it to us all!

ONE LAST QUOTE FOR YOU
A brand new year 2002 is here,
Open your heart and be of good cheer.
A year full of promise and good things to come.
In your list of resolutions, let good deeds be one.
Help one another and give of your love,
for that will be pleasing to the Father above.
