Galloping Goose Trail
Part of the Trans Canada Trail which traverses Canada, the Galloping Goose and Peninsula Trails form one of the most picturesque trail systems in Canada. Built upon the abandoned rail beds and trestles of that railway legacy, the Galloping Goose and Peninsula Trails connect our transportation past with our transportation future. You can travel for nearly 60 kilometers on the Galloping Goose Regional Trail. You can cycle, walk, or ride a horse along this former rail line past some of B.C.’s finest scenery.
Birds of a Feather B&B is easily accessible from the Galloping Goose Trail which makes it ideal for visitors traveling along the Goose.
There are 2 exit points in Colwood forn easy access to our B&B.
The Goose crosses Sooke Rd. just west of the intersection of Sooke Rd. and Knob Hill / Ocean Blvd. After you have crossed the highway you will be alongside the White Spot restaurant. You now have 2 options:
Option #1 - Ocean Blvd. Route (forest - ocean - one steep hill)
- go about 200 metres after White Spot and look for a short footpath veering off to the left down to the roadway
- you'll see a small intersection just to your left where you'll make a right and now you're on Ocean Blvd.
- continue through the forest past Fort Rodd Hill & Fisgard Lighthouse, then over the bridge
- still on Ocean Blvd. with the Esquimalt Lagoon to your right and the ocean to your left continue for 2 km until you reach Lagoon Rd where you'll turn right
- go up (steep hill) Lagoon Rd. to Heatherbell and turn right
- at the bottom of Heatherbell turn right on to Portsmouth; we are the very last house on the waterfront side - park your bicycles in our garage.
Option #2 - Forest short-cut through Royal Roads University (no hills)
- stay on the Goose until you come up alongside the entrance to Royal Roads University
- enter RRU and follow University Drive all the way down to and along the waterfront and then the loop back up to the first paved sideroad to the left (no name)
- this sideroad is paved for a short distance and then turns in to a dirt road / path
- follow the red line on the map below to the gate in the fence where you'll come out on to a public access driveway (if the gate to your right is closed there is a footbridge over the creek just toi the left
- the driveway comes out on to Heatherbell, then 200 metres along Heatherbell turn right on to Portsmouth Drive - big yellow house at the end of the road is Birds of a Feather - park your bikes in our garage
