Da Tandoor Indian

Da Tandoor passes the critical olfactory test of any good Indian restaurant. Diners are seduced by exotic aromas as they walk through the doorway of this Antique Row eatery. Tandoori chicken, seafood, and lamb are the house specialties; but the extensive menu also includes masalas, vindaloos, goshts, and vegetarian dishes, as well as classic appetizers like vegetable and meat samosas, pakoras, and papadums. Standout dishes include the house special stuffed naan bread filled with mildly spiced chicken, almonds, onion and raisins, and any of the combination dinners that allow you to sample a variety of dishes without breaking the bank. For under $20, try a plate laden with tandoori chicken, lamb curry in a rich onion sauce, butter chicken, mixed vegetables, Jalfrazie, creamy dhal Maharani (lentils simmered with traditional spices, garlic and ginger) cooling raita, pillau rice and bread. Top-notch food and better portions than any Indian restaurant in town and hovering on the edge of excellent.

Anyone who has run their own restaurant will tell you the hours are horrendous. You never get a day off and the minute you set money aside, you have to spend it. The day the bar fridge breaks down is the same one that the toilets flood. The pilot light in the oven won't work, all of your deliveries are late and you need to act as if you don't have a care in the world because it's your job to put other people at ease -- even when someone complains about the food after they have eaten every bite of it.
