Matisse - Classical French Cooking

matisse_restaurant.jpg

For classic French cuisine served on Villeroy Boch china and excellent service, look no further than this little restaurant where — hallelujah — cellphones are not permitted. Don’t visit here to eat; this is a place to dine. Indulge your inner gourmand with duck confit garnished with lentils and rhubarb compote or the superb rillettes made with pork belly, and follow with filet mignon bordelaise or braised lamb paired with demi glace enriched with fines herbes, red wine and calvados. Finish with tarte tatin or handmade truffles. Prices are reasonable and set menus even more of a bargain with four courses at $49, with pairings from the excellent wine list available for an additional $30. Rustic Charm abounds at the 17 Mile Pub in Sooke

Rustic charm abounds at this landmark on Sooke Road, which has served as an inn, a school and a venue for religious services before its present incarnation as a pub and restaurant.

A distinctive tiled floor in the front half of the building leads to the various rooms on the main floor. Whether you crave an evening with friends in the games room, a seat by the fire or a quieter spot overlooking the garden, this is a good place to stop for generous portions of pub grub.
